Jonas Papathemelis,
LUTES Presidential candidate 2026
Hey guys! I’m running for LUTES President 2026.
But why?
To put simply, we need to think about and take action towards strengthening the foundation and backbone of LUTES for the future years to come.
LUTES has grown a lot in the past 5 years, where it tripled its budget, quadrupled its membership count, doubled the team size and actually started getting the first serious companies to start up out of it. Something when I was a fresher I could just dream about.
Like wow. I cannot even ask my first ever LUTES related question anymore:
“Do you guys even do anything?"
And we are still growing at an astonishing pace.
But there are things that have not been keeping up with the growth.
And yes I’m talking about the fun little things that require a bit of bureaucratic governance housekeeping.
While the amazing Start-Up culture fosters us to break rules, think about things in new ways, there are still things that we can’t forget about.
To keep the pace up, we need to make sure that the governance and the organisational structure can support it, legally and as well as financially.
We also need to make sure our amazing team members feel motivated to stay active,
and that LUTES is the most welcoming community there is on the Skinnarila campus.
But most importantly, LUTES needs more professionalism and startups!

- Making sure everyone knows who is in charge of what
- What is happening when?
- Is there progress happening in everything we are doing?

- Have an ongoing open event series throughout semesters that will go through all the stages from taking action to founding a company

- Breakfasts together, Events together
- Board members and LUTES actives are actively encouraged to engage with the student community

- Turning LUTES into a human accelerator program and a learning platform
- LUTES gathers the most ambitious and curious minds of LUT and LAB. Students who crave challenges and want to learn more hands on.
- In current economy it is hard to gain relevant work experience
- Create opportunities that fosters synergies for LUTES from the different fields of study we have on campus
- Also create opportunities for students from all fields to learn more skills through LUTES by volunteering as a team member or through programs:
- A few examples

- LUTES teaches all aspects of the startup world. Skills that all startup founders need, but also are a strong advantage in other career paths as well.
- Out of the box thinking
- Having an overview of a lot of different details that affect the outcome
- Understanding the connections between business, technology and people.

- Turn LUTES and the startup culture of LUT into a reason why future founders apply here to study
- LUTES goes international
- Develop how LUTES connects with people internationally
- Create and keep track of international stakeholder relations
- Use Taival as a platform to stay in touch and connect with international partners
- Example: companies and organisations we visit can be referred to Forward accelerator program teams
- Create a network of international organisations that LUTES’ startups can refer to regarding market entry

- Recycling in Parvi
- Startups have the opportunity to have their sustainability graded and analysed, for them to understand aspects of sustainability to take into account
- Nice things section of fun action points because in the middle of being serious we need to still be human and have fun (also nice to see that you have read everything through here)
- I will show off my personal Animal Crossing: New Horizons island in parvi after the general meeting
